Afterschool Programs (Elementary)

The after-school programs, called Kid's Clubs, are offered from September - April for 280 elementary students attending Bale, Wakefield, and Wilson Elementary Schools. Students must be enrolled in UALR Children International and complete an application during school registration. The after-school programs are filled with academic and enrichment activities to increase reading and math skills, build self-esteem, and provide leadership opportunities. Certified teachers and one-on-one tutors use the Voyager Curriculum, a nationally tested reading and math intervention program. Enrichment classes include: chess, dance, gospel choir, art, drumming, and fitness. Students perform at local schools, churches, and community events. Students are giving back to their community by volunteering with Rice Depot, Meals on Wheels, and Adopt-a-Highway Program.

Youth Programs (6th through 12th grade students)

Youth Council

The Youth Council includes thirty-two young people who are elected by the other sponsored youth. They meet monthly and organize two major activities for the 400+ youth, 9-12th grade, enrolled in Children International. Summer activities include a paid six-week job internship and volunteer opportunities with summer camps or local nonprofits.

New Generation: A Leadership Academy

New Generation is all about teambuilding, learning how to get along with others, communicating and resolving conflict, and helping make your community a better place. Only 25 students will be selected for the first year.

College Prep

The newly created College Prep Program is a seven year program to prepare youth for college through educational and social activities and one-to-one mentors. Each year, 15 6th graders are chosen to participate in this seven year program. Students must live in the University District area and attend one of our partner elementary schools. The seven year program will provide students with leadership workshops, tutoring, one-on-one mentors, college tours, ACT preparation, job shadowing, annual summer camps, and scholarships.

The Youth Theatre Troupe

The Youth Theatre Troupe invites students to use theatre as a way to perform and discuss critical health issues facing youth in our city. Hands-on workshops on script writing, acting, set design, and much more provide tools for young people to develop scripts, build sets, create dynamic theatre, and lead rich talk-backs about teenage pregnancy, gang violence, and alcohol/drug abuse.

Summer Camps

Mind Your Own Business

The Mind Your Own Business Summer Camp is held at Wakefield Elementary during June-July of each year for 150 elementary students. Students create, market, and implement their own business. During the last week of camp, students sell their products at the Little Rock River Market and donate their proceeds to a local charity. Certified teachers serve as the instructors.

Life Links

Life-links Summer Camp is held one week during the month of June for 9-12th graders. This hands-on camp offers workshops on interviewing, resume writing, dressing for success, and job shadowing opportunities for young people.
